The huge fire went up in the Northern Brazilian city of Manaus, about 600 houses in flames. According to information from the health authorities, were injured in the night of Tuesday, at least 17 people. A government representative of the Federal state of Amazonas, spoke of “perhaps the largest urban fire in the history of Manaus”.
some 100 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire in the poor district of Educandos. The authorities suspect that the fire broke out during cooking. The flames spread in the densely populated poor district, where many houses are made of wood, very rapidly.
Because of the narrow streets the fire Department had big difficulties to reach the affected homes. The poor district of Educandos is located close to the city center of Manaus, on the banks of the river Rio Negro, which flows in the Region in the Amazon. Manaus is the capital of the Federal state of Amazonas. (fal/sda)
