While the November weather was on the Northern side of the Alps unspectacular, fell on the southern Alps, the regional record snow totals. In addition, the sky was cloudy all over the country, often clouds.

The southern side of the Alps registered one of the sun poorest months since the start of the measurements. With the easy-to-mild-November, the sixth-warmest autumn ends since measurements began in 1864, as the Federal office for meteorology and climatology (Meteoswiss) announced on Friday.

The November temperature was a country-wide means of 1.6 degrees above the Norm from 1981 to 2010. In high altitudes, however, the values decreased regional well below the Norm. The Jungfraujoch registered the 1.3 degree, the Great St. Bernhard pass 1 degree below it. Monthly mean well above the Norm, there were Föhnstandorten how Bad Ragaz, Altdorf and Meiringen, with a Surplus of 1.6 degrees.

Just a few hours of sun in the South of the country

The predominantly low-pressure certain November showed regional extremely cloudy. On the southern side of the Alps, the sunshine duration for a specific territory reached only 30 to 40 percent of the Norm from 1981 to 2010.

At the measuring location, Locarno-Monti, it was with only 56 hours of sunshine (calculated up to the end of the month) the second sun is the poorest in November and the fourth sun is the poorest month ever in the homogeneous measurement period starting in 1959. The absolute record minimum registered Locarno-Monti last November 2018, with only 33 hours of sunshine.
