The American-Chinese architect Ieoh Ming Pei, has died at the age of 102 years. This was confirmed on Thursday (local time) from his office in New York.

Pei was on 26. April 1917 in the Chinese city of Guangzhou (Canton) born. Already at the age of 17, he moved to the United States. The art of architecture, he studied there from 1935 to the University of Pennsylvania, before he made at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1946 at the Harvard Graduate School of Design degrees in architecture. Pei was full of classical Modernism, many of his designs are based on simple geometric shapes such as triangles, Cubes and pyramids. Pei has been awarded with numerous international awards. In 1983, he received the Pritzker prize, which is also referred to as the Nobel prize for architecture.
Active Pei was (at least as a big clock, its Executive architect) to the end. Century Plaza in Los Angeles, the Charles Darwin Centre in Australia, a number of buildings in India – Pei, tired, and new ideas and projects seemed hardly to be weary of. The Pritzker Jury acknowledged this in 1983, and wrote: “His versatility, and Can be the material use to the level of poetry approach.”
Perhaps the Peis indicates, however, especially in the construction, meant to him personally: the Miho Museum near Kyoto in Japan. The spectacular plant with Tunnel entrance, and high glass roofs he has set in the midst of the Japanese hills. “Arch daily”founder and critic David Basulto wrote: “By its insertion in the environment and its “architectural Promenade” created the Museum, a series of distinctive experiences and moments, to make a synthesis of what should be the architecture.” (Dec/sda)
