When the Apollo 14 astronauts in 1971 returned to Earth, it was, among other things with a lot of souvenirs in the form of moonstone.

it Now seems, however, however, that they also have brought a little piece of ‘home’ back, writes NewScientist according to the Science.dk

At the Swedish Museum of Natural history in Stockholm have found a small piece of granite in the collection of moon rocks, the Apollo 14 mission took with him to the Ground.

the Study of the stone revealed that it consisted of some crystals, which was created in an environment that was much richer in oxygen, and much colder than usual moonstone.

It could indicate that the stone has been created in the 168-km depth on the Moon, but it is more likely that the stone originated from the Earth.

In that case, it would be the first proof that the stones also may be cut off from Earth and land on other planets – just like you see with meteorites from the Moon, landing on the Ground.

’the Earth has been hit by a lot of great stuff, and it is likely that the clash has at times been so great that material from the Earth has been displaced and has reached the Moon,’ says William Bottke, center director at the Southwest Research Institute in Colorado, according to NewScientist.

the Stone, which is about 4.5 billion years old, can be categorized as one of the oldest stone from the Ground, ‘ve ever found.

the Earth has changed much in 4.5 billion years, so the stone can serve as a unique window into Earth’s early days.
