”Death has been my playmate at the theatre. Now playing he with my old life. I’m scared.”

So writes Staffan Westerberg , 84 years of age, in the program to the very first exhibition of his art. When I in the spring heard that he planned to set out its pick and pack at Eskilstuna art museum, my first thought was ”No, Staffan döstädar!” But apparently he has only lent his stuff in a couple of months.

I belong to the generation which usually assert to Staffan Westerberg destroyed our childhood. But not mine – on the contrary. I was intrigued by Lost in the pancake when it was, the contemporary criticism went to me completely over the head, but I started to feel a little too big for Lillstrumpa and Sister, Frisky. These strumpdockor made an entrance in the tv christmas calendar when I was of an age when the anxious thoughts about the childish – in a negative way, started to torment me. When a carelessly emphasized the question of ’the child still playing with dolls’ is automatically aroused a strong desire to be great.
