Bernardo Bertolucci – [ and one of the very best

Bernardo Bertolucci was one of the all-time top directors.

He formed the school with their personal stories, full of both politics and eroticism.

And was a superb person to interview, I noticed during a lååååång lunch just before niofaldiga oscar winner ”The last emperor” had its premiere.

Bernardo Bertolucci passed away on Monday, 77-year-old, after a long battle with cancer.

Fully salable was a long time ago he was. The last time I saw him was as the president of the jury at the Venedigfestivalen 2013. Then he was running around in a wheelchair, he had injured himself after a fall and was never good in the back again.

” All are, unfortunately, a little bit scandal about how he tricked Maria Schneider (1952-2011), then the past 19 years, to participate in the våldtäktsscenen with Marlon Brando (1924-2004) in ”Last tango in Paris” (1972). He did not tell in advance what would happen, because he wanted her reaction as a ‘ young girl, not as an actress”. There, he revealed himself in an interview. She said shortly before her death that she had felt ”humbled… and a little bit raped”.

Such behavior will, hopefully, not even that the surroundings regard as male geniuses to get away with now-a-days.

A genius when it comes to making films, he was undeniably.

With the personal stories that mixed politics and eroticism. He was born in a högborgerlig family, but his own views lay to the left.

Many of his films were controversial. Some thought his second to last film ”the Dreamers” was gubbsjuk, as he depicted the student uprisings in Paris in 1968 via a kärlekstriangel with very much sex and nudity. It was there that Eva Green got his break.

the Most known he became still, except for the skandalfilmen ”Last tango in Paris”, for his two epic films, ”1900” and ”The last emperor”.

We ate, drank wine and talked film for almost three hours

The first an epic story of Italy’s history during the first half of the 1900s, with Gérard Depardieu, Robert De Niro, Stefania Sandrelli, Donald Sutherland. The other an equally epic story of China’s last emperor. The film won nine Oscars.

a Few months before the premiere I got to meet him when he sat and mixed the sound on the film in London. After about half an hour he said:

” Nah, this takes care of recording artists and sound engineers to better themselves. Now, we eat lunch.

the Driver drove us to one of London’s better Italian restaurants where we ate, drank wine and talked film for almost three hours. He was an incredibly entertaining narrator. A memory for life.

like many of his films will continue to be for all the movie lovers around the world.
