IN 2019 the hottest and most extreme events in Italy this year were registered 157 extreme events, with 42 victims to the bad weather. In ten years in our Country – said Legambiente – there were over 500 extreme events, over 50 thousand people evacuated. 2020 should be the year of the turning point with the approval of the national plan of adaptation to climate change”. And he adds: “In the year of the great mobilization of youth led by Greta Thunberg to save the Planet, the budget climate in 2019 gives us a critical year for Italy”.
2019 has been characterized by 85 cases of flooding from heavy rainfall; 54 cases of damage from tornadoes (a strong increase compared to the 41 2018), 5 of landslides caused by intense rainfall and 16 flooding of the river. In increase also the events that involve two or more categories (for example, cases in which flooding river or flooding from intense rainfall, causing damage to infrastructure).
