More than one and a half years, the Russian sat on the arrest in the house. After international protests, he is now back in freedom.
The Russian Director Kirill Serebrennikov is surprisingly after about one and a half years of house arrest have been dismissed. His passport has been confiscated. Serebrennikov said after the decision that he wanted to work freely again. Human rights activists welcomed the decision of the court.
Serebrennikov is for more than one and a half years in house arrest. In the summer of 2017, he was working for alleged embezzlement of funds during the filming of his Film “Leto” (summer). The Russian judiciary accuses Serebrennikov, as well as other defendants in the embezzlement of state funds amounting to millions. The Director rejects it.
Last week, the house arrest for Serebrennikov had been extended by three months. The procedure is internationally recognized as stages in the criticism. Movie stars, theatre professionals and politicians have called on Russia to stop the persecution of a liberal artist.
