you are the Ambassador for an age study. How did you do it?
I am a patient of Heike Bischoff-Ferrari. The Swiss geriatrics Professor has a good reputation about your area of specialization. I had heard from several people that she is a Doctor that listens.

you Allow the question of what health Problem you had?
A doctor diagnosed osteoporosis in me and said I had to me regularly, a drug syringe. I don’t want to. Or, if it were to recommend me a doctor I trust. It is a very strong drug. I knew of Friends who take it that you are not allowed to move after the injection for twenty minutes.

And you can’t?
Only when it is really necessary. I could not believe the drug. So I went to Mrs Bischoff, in order to receive the gold standard of a medical advice. As we speak started, I made up my trust immediately. You said that my values were at the border, and you think we could manage on my own without the injections. With a certain diet and a daily light motor program. And she was right! The bone density is again increased.

What do you look for in the diet?
basically a meal for me is not just food, but also an act of friendship. As in Italy. You are sitting, eating a plate of Pasta and some vegetables, then there is a dessert or fruit. You think you are with people you like, drink a glass of wine, relax. All of it gives you food, not just the food. And as for the osteoporosis, And calcium helps, and protein-rich food.

you seem, in fact, strong.
I’m lucky, I’ve always been healthy, was never in the hospital.

you Have good genes, or what do you attribute this?
I have a good physical Constitution. I am a cheerful person. I’ll like to make people Laugh, and I laugh myself. I think I inherited it from my parents. Both of them were so. I am the child of happy people. And I have a happy brother. We had a lot of Fun. For example, if my mother dressed for Halloween the dog. We had to like each other. About the illness of Depression, it means that it is largely genetic. Why should not the same apply for happiness? We have discussed in our family a lot, my parents were very literate, even though they had no academic education. You were able to Express themselves well with the language of play.

therefore, your sense of language?
the language fascinates me more than paintings or sculptures. Language and music are my two passions.

What are you thinking: Helps music, to stay healthy?
Yes, because being happy helps. I think happy people are more resistant to mental as well as physical diseases. It doesn’t have to be necessarily passion, but enthusiasm for something that a preoccupation distracts. This can be a dog or anything that fills you with joy.

Back to the initial question: How did you come to your role as an Ambassador for a study that wants to show the people, like you, in old age, can stay healthy?
I liked Mrs Bischoff. You don’t research for honor or for money, but she wants to help people. She told me of her great age, study and your program. Me liked that approach. The people will not promise eternal youth and eternal life. But it’s like the good old family doctor says: If you stop doing this and start doing this and this, then perhaps you will be healthier, when they come to the age. You will be less drop and a little break.

What is your job as Ambassador?
Ms. Bischoff was looking for a godmother for the program. Someone with a certain level of popularity, a civilized Person with a mind, which can communicate your message. I said, well, let me do it. I love to read medical articles or books on the history of medicine. I find it fascinating how medicine has changed over time. 150 years ago a doctor put his hands in the body of a sick Person, and then he delivered a woman without hands in between to have washed. The woman had to die because no one knew anything about germs. Today, we carry around small bottles of hand sanitizer for personal use with us. This is a fundamental development.

“In Venice, I walked by foot to get somewhere, two or three hours a day were normal.”

The study aims to ensure that people contribute something themselves to stay healthy.
Yes, by you eat well, you exercise, moved. Each and every one of you can participate in the program. And it is not threatened with the index finger, but with the statistical scientific evidence argues. I’ve changed my habits, too.

to what Extent?
I take Vitamin D and Omega 3, let me regularly to check in and do more for my Fitness.

What are you doing?
I lived many years in Venice. There, I ran to the foot very much, to get somewhere, two or three hours a day were normal. Now that I live in the valley, I go Hiking every day. In Venice we went straight ahead, in the Val Müstair, up and down.

Venice is currently underwater. What went through your head when you saw the pictures?
I’ve seen a lot of high water, but never such a large. I almost fell as I read in the “Gazzettino” of it – I read this newspaper every day. And now the city government says it’s because of climate change. The same people said three months ago, Greta Thunberg was a sick, confused Person. I am the First to see the climate change responsible for many of the problems that we have. This flood is not one of them but.

’t it?
The reason for this is that the 6-billion-project Moses, a huge barrier to investment, which is intended to protect the city from future high water. The lagoon massively dredged was able to flow – so that now more water even faster in the city. What is also scandalous: For the mega-project, there was no tender.

you no longer live in Venice – because of abuses like these?
That’s not the reason. I went because of the crowds, the tourists. I like people, but not 30 million.

they live today in the valley of Munster, but are also often in Zurich.
I was in Zurich a friend that I live each. I’ve go a lot of friends in the city, often in the Opera – also this weekend, because I want to see “Belshazzar” by Handel. I travel a lot, to listen to concerts. Just this week I was in New York.

The Münstertal offers less.
there are different. Nature.

How you found this place?
I saw an ad in the newspaper: An old house was for sale. Why not?, I thought it would be. And I found also an application for naturalisation.

do you want to be Swiss? Why?
I realize, especially when I come back like now from the USA – I’m European. My Thinking is much more European than American. It was very turn nice, here home.

you Have to get the red passport?
not Yet. It is a long process, and rightly so. I don’t know exactly where the process stands. Anyway, I passed the language test in Italian.

Where you feel at home?
When I’m asked, I hesitate always. Because I have no answer. I live in Zurich, I live in Santa Maria. And I’m often in Venice. I have friends there I have known for 50 years. A friend’s mother is now 95, she is my second mother, I can’t leave you in the lurch. For me, it is a good thing.

The Writing keeps you in motion. They bring out every year a new Brunetti mystery, so they are always on it.
Almost always. I write on many days, usually in the morning. So I’ll stay in your head fit. Therefore, also the orchestra, which I promote, so wonderful. It’s called Il pomo d’oro. All of the young people. I’m often with you on the go, am then surrounded by 25 people who are 50 years younger than me. Does extremely well. You think otherwise. I baby-sit the kids, and I’m even the godmother of one of the children. I respect the musicians, because they have chosen a life that you will never be rich and never Konstanz will have.

you Had never the desire to play an Instrument?
no. I was repeatedly asked if I wanted to write an Opera libretto. I always said no. Because I know what I can do what I’m good at. I am in a very small thing, a small Spaghetti. Do not ask me to write a theater piece or a screenplay – I can’t do it. So how can I also do carpentry, a table.
