Amos Oz is dead. The Israeli writer, died at the age of 79 years in Jerusalem, as his daughter Fania Oz-Salzberger tells on Twitter. A year and a half before his 80. Birthday, he succumbed to a cancer suffering.
Oz is considered the most important representative of Israeli literature, and due to his political commitment as one of the great peace visionaries of his country.

As Amos Klausner in 1939 in Jerusalem in the British mandate of Palestine (1920-1948) was born, grew up in Oz as a single child in a right-wing Zionist family.
Six years after the Foundation of the state of Israel in 1948, the rebel, the 15-year-old students against the conservative parents ‘ house, rebelled and moved to the kibbutz Chulda (Hulda), where he joined the Hebrew name “Oz” (dt.: Strength, power) increased. Then he studied literature and philosophy and then returned to Chulda.
Since 1961, published Oz’s short stories, “My Michael”, he achieved his first novel bestseller. After graduation, he worked in the kibbutz-collective, taught at high schools and wrote. His life’s work was awarded the Israel prize in 1998, the Goethe-prize in 2005 and the Siegfried-Lenz-Preis 2014. Oz price was also as a candidate for the literature Nobel.
