“Järnvägsexpert: Denmark safest in Europe”

“The deadly train crash in Denmark stands out, as the country tops the statistics of railway safety in Europe.”

“– Denmark is the best in Europe not to have rail accidents. They have been top of the list in several years, so this is the… damn it, frankly, ” says järnvägsexperten Per Corshammar.”

“Denmark is in shock after Wednesday’s deadly train accident, which occurred in the wake of the storm, Alfrida and demanded six human lives.”

“It is unclear exactly how the accident occurred and if the wind speed has been a factor. At a press conference in the afternoon, said Funen police is still investigating the olycksförloppet.”

“– Train service should not be conducted in heavy wind over 21 metres per second – the units are not designed for higher sidvindar than that, says Corshammar.”

“According to information available to the Danish Radio wind speed, however, have been less than 21 metres per second at the time of the accident, and thus were no restrictions for rail services.”

“Corshammar tells us that this type of train accidents, with many deaths, occurs extremely rarely in Europe – about once per year or every two years.”

“– The most common tågolyckorna, internationally, are those that occur when the train pass a level crossing, i.e. a crossing for cars and road vehicles. Technical errors on the locomotive, which hjulaxelbrott or hjulfel, occurs maybe three times per year, and derailments around ten to 20 times per year, ” he says.”

“Sweden is somewhere in the middle of the european tågolycksstatistiken, according to Corshammar.”

” We are a mediocrity. The best safety on the railways, Denmark, Luxembourg, the united kingdom and Ireland. At the other end, we have Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland and Romania, ” he says.”

“Globally, there is a country that clearly stands out in the accident statistics: India.”

“– Which always occurs such an accident twice per year, ” says Per Corshammar.”

“the Country’s gloomy figures has partly to do with the overcrowded train when an accident happen, are hit very many travelers. The root cause, explains Corshammar, however, is the poor maintenance and the old railway.”

“the Fact remains, however: the Train overall is a very safe mode of transportation, with vanishingly small risk of being killed in an accident.”

“– In all of the world’s railway system, approximately 250 travelers per year. In vägtrafiksystemet die around 50 000 people per year. It gives one a sense of the proportions, ” says Per Corshammar.”

“This follows a ranking of the safety of the railways in the european countries, according to the report.”
