”OMG Shazam…was so f** gooooood”. That quote, who this week topped a filmannons for superhjältekomedin ”Shazam!” and is attributed to the realitystjärnan and blogger Bianca Ingrosso, got many filmskribenter to gasp for breath. It meant that the reviews of the journal is dead for real now?
So bad it is not, but influerarna is here to stay and they have, as known, often a great many more followers than the established media. There is no direct influence-a quote in French director Olivier Assayas new film ”Between the lines” (”Doubles vies”) – but here it is in all cases almost all of the other phenomena (e-commerce, twitter, åsiktsbloggar, Instagram, sträcktittning, etc.) that characterizes the digital shift in culture.
the Film – which could also have been called ”Sex, lies and audio books” – is set around the middle-aged publisher Alain Danielson (Guillaume Canet). He has just decided to do away with the stökige the author Léonard Spiegel (Vincent Macaigne). Alain is tired of Léonards fixation on the to turn their skabrösa love to trendriktig – but still not enough selling – autofiktion.
The two gentlemen are old good friends and hang out on the parmiddagar. Alains wife, actress Selena (Juliette Binoche), is shown to have a particular reason for that after all like the book. It rejected the author’s partner Valérie, a political expert at the left-wing has, in turn, too much at work to have the energy to bother. She has read the husband’s books and drawn their own conclusions about his unfaithfulness, but at the French mannerisms to pretend she as if it is raining.
Alain wandering around in their expensive lammullströjor under stylish jackets and don’t know which leg he is supposed to stand on. On the one hand, he is jumping in bed with the publisher’s new young digital marknadsföringsproffs Laure who think that physical books are prehistoric. On the other hand, says Alain that he feels that Gunnar Björnstrands prost in the ”winter light” preaching to an empty church. He believes in the book with the big B.

Also, Selena is struggling with a fundamental shift in their world. Actually maybe she will want to continue to play Lars Norén at the prestigious Théâtre de l’odéon, but attracted by his new career as a krimdrottning in a popular tv series where she plays a ”krishanteringexpert” within the French police.
Olivier Assayas ended up out of focus with his two latest films. Patchy ”Clouds of Sils Maria” (2015) made a steep coupling with female power, kändiskultur and remarkable natural phenomena in the alps. Much more interesting was the low-key psychological skräckisen ”personal shopper” (2017) who never even came on american cinema despite the fact that Kristen Stewart was absolutely stunning in the role of down in the dumps, Hilma af Klint-inspired andejägare.

Olivier Assayas left the metaphysics to a more terrestrial relationsdramatik who dresses him so well right now. The film exudes a good mood and is related to the sene Alain Resnais and the duo of Agnès Jaouis /Jean-Pierre Bacris early, best work. Assayas has almost always been good at writing interesting portraits of women, Juliette Binoches role here is no no exception.
”Between the lines” is French chatty, sometimes a little too clear didactic in the critical middagskonversationerna which takes place in the bohemian-chic parisian middle class. But the drama feels seldom pompous, and often beneficial reasoning. The beguiling sense of humour that mixes high and low takes the edge of it that would have been too pretentious.
The filthy association with Michael Hanekes film ”The white ribbon” is extremely entertaining, and mixed with references to Star Wars, a little politikersatir and a quirky felcitering taken from Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa ”the Leopard”; it is that everything must change for everything to remain as usual.
Possibly this is ”Between the lines” a little for period to keep in the long term, but it is not likely to get any more fun kulturvärldskomedi in the year.
See more. Three other films with Juliette Binoche from the later years: ”Elle” (2011), ”waiting on a miracle” (2015), ”Let the sunshine in” (2017).
