During the teaching events are crashes on Saturday, parts of a building of the University in the Russian city of St. Petersburg. Dozens of students and staff had been trapped for a short time, informed the civil protection of the Baltic sea metropolis.
Nearly 90 people were rescued from the destroyed building. No one had been injured, initial findings suggest that heavy, there were no fatalities. In Russian schools and universities teaching on the weekend is not unusual.
How could it come to the collapse, was initially unclear. On the video recordings was to see how within a few seconds, the walls cracked and caved in. At least four floors collapsed.
Only a part of the student could in due time in safety. “We have heard in the classroom, suddenly a loud creak, and unusual noise,” said the rector Vladimir Vasiliev of the Agency Interfax. “Then we ran all out of the building: professors, students, and staff.” Some were ladders on the fire to the outside.
The building belongs to the state University of information technologies, Mechanics and optics Saint-Petersburg (ITMO), and is located in the historical centre of the city. In one of the floors will be immediately in front of the collapse of smaller repair work carried out. The authorities determined whether all safety precautions were adhered to.
In Russia, it always comes back to the collapse of buildings. Only at the new year’s eve city of Magnitogorsk had been destroyed in the industry in Siberia, a residential building in a gas explosion. Around 40 people were killed. Houses in Russia are to be inspected at least once in the year on defects, in many cases, this is not observed, however. In older houses it is also investing hardly any, many of them are ramshackle and dilapidated.
