With the festival Solidays cancelled, this is the program of international aid to the sick provided by Solidarity Aids, which is threatened: Luke Barruet, founder and director of the association, is launching Wednesday an appeal for donations to find a million euros.

“It’s not in our DNA to appeal to the generosity of the general public by the collection – we are usually in the crop, that is to say that we generate money for our initiatives, but the situation requires it”, developed for the AFP the head. The epidemic of coronavirus has led mid-April to the cancellation of the festival (scheduled from 19 to 21 June), which was on track to beat its record attendance last year, 228.000 spectators at the Longchamp racecourse, to the west of Paris.
Waive the edition 2020 meant a loss of € 3.2 million for Solidarité Sida, support to 2019, the 108 projects of assistance to the sick carried by nearly 80 partner associations in 22 countries. After maintenance of the public grants, in their entirety, and the support of private partners – “between 50% to 100% depending on the case, which is not negligible in these times of crisis,” says Luke Barruet -there remains today a million euros to find. This financial hole is a “threat to the structure and programs of aid, so if a kind benefactor wants to manifest, he does not hesitate to contact Solidarité Sida”, he adds.

For others, there is a possibility of a refund of a portion or all of the tickets purchased. Gestures of solidarity spontaneous have already come forward: festival-goers have asked for the re-opening of the box office in spite of the cancellation, and “1200 tickets have been sold for the benefit of the association of the kind, which is goofy and touched us”, is blowing Luke Barruet.

“One is almost embarrassed now to make this appeal for donations, we know that people have already given a lot – for caregivers and others – but we say that it can make a beautiful gesture before the holidays that help an event in which the watchwords are solidarity and benevolence, to reduce human distress”, concludes the patron of the association.
