“A strong depiction of three eras in the history of Germany through an artist’s life”

“Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, with Tom Schilling, Sebastian Koch, Paula Beer, Saskia Rosendahl.”

“Forget the silly hollywood film ”The tourist” with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.”

“Get the can, as the German ”The the lives of others”-director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck depict a country’s development and change through a person’s life.”

“Germany’s Oscarsbidrag in the year. An epic film about politics, art, love, and terrible familjehemligheter during the three eras of the country’s turbulent history.nUnge Kurt experiencing as a child the rise of the nazi party in the early 1930s. As a young adult (Tom Schilling, in the picture above) just after the second world war he studies art and reach success in the DDR. Marries with the beautiful Ellie (Paula Beer), whose father (Sebastian Koch) is a successful doctor who hates the son and does everything to sabotage the relationship. That, and the bad experiences of both nazism and communism – makes Kurt flees to west Germany, where he discovers that capitalism not only has advantages…nwhen I saw the movie on Venedigfestivalen the fall of 2018, I was totally cracked by how cleverly the director had portrayed the history of Germany, by what I then thought was a fictional artist’s life. German critics (and later the audience) have not been as impressed. They think history has distorted the now 87-year-old (and very famous) artist Gerhard Richter’s life.nEn true or fictional story, all the same. Me touched on the film almost as strong as the director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarcks Oscarsvinnare ”The others ‘ life” 13 years ago.n”
