This new closure of a cinema on the Champs-Élysées is explained by the real estate value of the buildings in this avenue. A cinema of no interest to the owners because the rooms take up too much surface area for a rent that they deem insufficient. For operators too, the situation is complicated. There are less inhabitants in this district, which for a trade to close as a cinema is a disaster. In some theatres, attendance has dropped 50% in fifteen years. The signs that have the wind in stern are the shops, hotels and cafes for tourists. The Triumph, the Monte Carlo, the Lord Byron… In the heyday, there were up to 40 cinemas on the Champs-Élysées as you can see on a map made by the association Paris-Luxor. All of them disappeared one after the other. The George V had been saved by the UGC in 1993. Opened in 1938, this film takes the name of the king George-V in the 1950’s.

With the disappearance of this film, which follows one of the Gaumont Champs-Elysées Ambassade in 2016, there are only three rooms on what is supposed to be the most beautiful avenue in the world : The Normandy with its majestic hall, the starry sky at 116 bis, the Publicis at 129, and the Marignan, which needs to be redone by the architect Françoise Raynaud (Warblers, the Pagoda). In the meantime, it is necessary to stray a little and go to the Club of the Star, Balzac, or even at the MK2 Grand Palais.
