south Korea is one of the few industrialized nations where abortion is still illegal. Except when it comes to cases of rape, incest or when the mother’s health is in danger.
from 1953, it is illegal to perform an abortion. The law goes against the constitution according to the court, therefore, will now be changed in the end of next year. Women who undergo an abortion can be sentenced to a year in prison and a fine. The doctor who performed the aborten can be sentenced to two years in prison.
A poll conducted in 2017 indicates that 51.9 percent of south Korea’s population is to abolish the ban. Protesters against the ban has been in the various campaigns stated that abortförbudet mainly affects the younger women in the country and mean that they are the most vulnerable to the stigma.
A survey last year found that one of five women who have been pregnant, performed an abortion. Only one per cent of the women said that they had a lawful reason to implement it.
