During the past decade, Anna Thorvaldsdottir emerged as one of the most lyskraftiga the representatives of the icelandic music internationally. A music that blends several different genres in their nature but also sometimes futuristic expression of the interplay between the contemporary and the mythical. When Johanna Paulsson, DN appointed Thorvaldsdottirs ”Aequa” to 2018, the year’s best albums, she described her music as ”a cave with a framblåst urtidsdjur”. And when DN:s Camilla Lundberg reviewed her ”Ró” in the same year resembled she it at a ”quiet ljuddjur, who slowly wakes up…”. But the stillness, the timeless, can also carry on a purely sensational kraftutlösningar. As in orkesterverket ”Aeriality”, which I heard for quite exactly two years ago in Gothenburg, where a floating klangmassa gradually get to such an intensity that it generates a sound that seems to be moving in supersonic.

it gets its world premiere at the newly established Point-festival in Gothenburg on Thorvaldsdottirs symphonic orchestral music to the dance production ”Aion” (the unfettered passage of god in the Greek mythology) in a staging of the erna Ómarsdóttir and the Iceland Dance Company. As a foretaste to this event, had the chamber ensemble Gageego! last Sunday invited Thorvaldsdottir at Stenhammarsalen of the Gothenburg concert hall.

the Whole of the icelandic production team for ”Aion” was in place when she spoke with the audience about it and told me about the chamber concert she now kurerat together with Gageego!. A program with a large wingspan that gave us oldtimers as György Kurtag (Bagatellen Op. 14) and Krzystof Penderecki (Quartet for clarinet and string trio). At the side of the model Kaija Saariaho (”Oi kuu”) and the generation that Henry Denerin (”Fluchtlinien”), and Clara Iannotta (”Paw-Marks in the Wet Cement”.

A multi-faceted timbral environment to Thorvaldsdottirs own two works, ”Reflections”, and ”Ró”, where man in close up got to experience the extraordinarily vibrant intensity that elicits the most amazing ljudhändelser. A music that does not try to resemble nature. But it is his own nature, in all its shades and the sense of miracle.
