this really had all the makings of a successful concert.
The brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto has caressed the world with their luxurious updated bossa nova since she broke through with the album ”Tanto tempo” in the year 2000. Then, she followed up with the album on the album of soft poppig brazilian music. It embeds the listener in a kind of perpetual summer. Delicious, supple and comfortable.
As heard on the last name, so she has parents that brås on. Her father is bossa-icon João Gilberto and her mother singer Miúcha, who died in the winter. When she grew up was musikhjältar such as Milton Nascimento and Caetano Veloso obvious guests in the home. She was born in New York city and lives his life just as much in US as in Brazil. It is also outside their home country as Bebel Gilberto has its largest audience. (She has complained in interviews that many that think she makes ”music for gringos”.)
she arrives together with only his guitarist Guilherme Monteiro. They are both neatly dressed in black. The only props are a chair and a stool. This would the music be the focus, right up and down.
There are crowded, the audience all dressed up and in the noise lördagsstämning. Maybe that is why she feels the requirement to deliver a show, instead to rely on their songs, its bossa. She can’t be on the scene for many minutes before she wants to get the audience to sing and clap hands.
She tells me how much she loves Sweden, dedicates the concert to a Stockholmsvän. She makes a serious face with her arms, dancing in her jeweled, high-heeled sandals, going down on his knees in front of the guitarist. She admonishes someone in the audience talking too loud.
with berry notes, full-bodied voice, but here she gives the impression that she wants to show up, flaunt. In most of the songs she sings just a few lines of text before she gives in wordless improvised vocals, a ”da-da-da” over and over again. The rhythm section on the acoustic guitar are soft and safe. One of the few songs she actually sings with a confident matter of course is one of mother’s favorites, Cole Porter’s ”Just one of those things”.
It feels as if she is careless through the evening. But when she goes of the stage and throws the times so the cheering crowd euphoric.
