In a written opinion on Monday says the museum that the decision to suspend the exhibition was made following an assessment of the artist’s comments ”concerning an act of sexual violence that he committed” during the production of a film from 1970.

According to Art News, the decision was taken after local activists in east Harlem calls attention to ”a decenniegammalt opinion” of the artist, and the director, where he is said to have raped his co-star in the film.

El Museo del Barrio, located on upper Manhattan and specializes in Latin american and caribbean art. The exhibition would be opened on February 28.
