of course, It was right long ago Bruce Springsteen made a really good album or even wrote a really good song, the fate he shares with many of the older artists. However, I find it hard to get on someone who is so good at managing his catalogue that Springsteen, who constantly manage to play the old songs with surprising enthusiasm, and that can problematize their career and maintain a very constructive role in the public sphere. ”Springsteen on Broadway” is a good proof of it.

When Springsteen announced that he would make a small-scale Broadwayshow I tried to first get me a pressbiljett through the channels that were available. It proved to be impossible. And the coveted tickets to the few performances that was promised would be sold through a lottery where people would sign up and – if you won – get a text message with a code at a certain time and then have the ability to log in and buy his ticket. But there was an element of uncertainty, even then, for the chairs cost from 500 dollars to upward of 10,000 crowns, and the cheap, of course, would go first. Hundreds of thousands of people participated in the lottery, and I happened to win. My ticket cost only three and a half thousand. As found. I felt, consequently, that a specially selected individual to the that evening exactly one year ago when I crossed Times Square in New York city in the blizzard to see Bruce Springsteen play solo in a theater with 900 seats.

wonderful show (review in DN 17/12 2017) that both enhanced the image of the artist and his catalog. But particularly exclusive, it proved to hardly be so in hindsight. After 236 completed evenings – which pulled in over a billion dollars in the box office – it’s time for the album, and greater on Netflix.

the Disk and konsertfilmen is in other words a well-inrepeterad version of the show, with unexpected fine presence and genuine känsloleverans

It would seem unusual gnidet to be Springsteen, but the quality will excuse him. In ”Springsteen on Broadway” you will meet a genomteraperad older man (70 years old next fall) recounting his voluminous life in a very sympathetic way. He is alone on the stage with the exception of the two songs he does with his wife Patti Scialfa. Konsertfilmens close-ups show a strangely ambivalent interplay in ”Brilliant Disguise”, the song he wrote about the divorce from his former wife.

with the show is that Springsteen, who is otherwise known to constantly vary both setlistan and mellansnacken, read the same script from an autocue every evening and played the same songs. The disc and konsertfilmen is in other words a well-inrepeterad version of the show, with unexpected fine presence and something that actually seems like a genuine känsloleverans. Monologues about the youth, career, parents, dreams and America interspersed with strong acoustic versions of hitparaden. He mourns the childhood climbing tree, old friends and old times, but it is less about nostalgia than about what you can take with you in life and what makes a man.

The only thing I bothers me is the time-review “– not even ” come away with anecdotes. Much of the ”Springsteen on Broadway” is familiar from the autobiography he published this year, on the evil and good. But anyway, I am glad I got to see it in reality, that I for once won the lottery. All the other have the chance now. The album was released on Friday 14 december and konsertfilmen are on Netflix on the 16th.
