In a statement to CBS News Friday, the court stated that there were no additional injuries and that there was not a concern for public safety.
Police identified the victim as Wynn Bruce (50), Boulder, Colorado. He died from his injuries after being flown to a hospital. The court stated that he set himself ablaze at the plaza in front the court building around 6:30 p.m. The court didn’t provide any details about the suspect or their motives.
The court stated that the Supreme Court Police, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department responded immediately to the incident and that a medical helicopter was sent to transport the victim to a local hospital.
“The court stated that the area is still closed for further investigation. However, this is not an issue of public safety.”
This happened in Washington D.C. on a chaotic day. Multiple people had been shot earlier on Friday. According to officials, the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot injury.
