this record has had a takeoff on near thirty years, and it is heard. When jazz – and improvisationspianisten Arne Forsen received the Jan Johansson-scholarship in 1987 so was born the idea to record an album with Swedish folk music. Certainly it is difficult to avoid references to the classic ”Jazz in Swedish”, but Forsen fold with the masterful ”View from Dorotea” still on their own path.
the dances and songs, primarily from the county of Västerbotten, but the sixteen songs are completely unconcerned about genres. Music, just. Forsen has carved out the special character in each track. Individual notes may drop as a healthy försommarregn, or so thought he set the wide, opulent, jazzy chords. I think that it takes a life to achieve the sensitivity he has in his fingers.
