Within Romania’s government has inflamed a dispute over a possible relocation of the own Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Romania was the first EU country that would take such a step. Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announced on Sunday at the annual meeting of the American-Israeli lobby organization Aipac in Washington: “I, as Prime Minister of Romania, and the government, which I lead, will move our Embassy to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.”

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis rejected Dancilas of Expression later. “The final decision (on a routing of the message) is the responsibility of the President of Romania”, Iohannis. According to the Constitution the head of state determines the guidelines of the foreign policy of Romania. Dancila evidence “once again, your total ignorance in the field of foreign policy”.

The social Democrat, Dancila and Iohannis belong to opposing political Camps. The head of state is close to the bourgeois Opposition. Romania currently has the presidency of the EU.

The United States had recognized in a stand-alone Jerusalem in December 2017 as Israel’s capital, and last may its Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, laid. Also, countries such as the Czech Republic or Brazil, have called for a removal of their diplomatic missions.

The linings are controversial. The Status of Jerusalem should be determined in accordance with the opinion of the majority of the international community in future peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. Israel claims all of Jerusalem as its capital, the Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of a future separate state of Palestine.
