The concentration of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have been 2018 as high as never before. The values would have increased even slightly more than in the average of the past ten years, it was said on Monday at the UN in Geneva.

The concentration of CO2 was 2018 in the case of 408 ppm (Parts per million), while in the previous year, 405,5 ppm were measured, such as the world meteorological organization (WMO) announced. The increase is very close to the increase from the year 2016 the year 2017. The last comparable CO2 value is several millions of years. Today’s concentration of carbon dioxide is about 150 percent of the value of the pre-industrial era.

carbon dioxide is for two-thirds of the greenhouse gas effect responsible. In the atmosphere, it remains for hundreds of years. It is significantly responsible for climate change, but also for the rise in sea level or extreme weather. In 30 years, the greenhouse effect has increased by 43 percent.

There were no signs of a slowdown, and a decline does not talk at all, said the WMO Director General, Petteri Taalas. He called on the international community to increased efforts. The next world climate conference is held in the first half of December in Madrid.

According to the UN indicators show that the increase in the concentration of CO2-concentration on fuel is due from non-renewable sources of energy.

Also of methane, the second most important greenhouse gas, the concentration increases; it is now at over 250 percent of the value of industrialization. To 120 percent of the value of industrialization, the concentration of nitrous oxide (N2O), which encourages the ozone depletion is increased. (Dec/sda)
