In val Roja, in a nest of the golden eagle at the lowest altitude of all the Alps

In val Roja, in the hinterland of imperia to the French border it was discovered the nest of the golden eagle at the lowest altitude ever established in the Alps, 380 metres above sea level.
The discovery was made by two scholars Fabiano Sartirana and Rudy Valfiorito who have published the result of their studies and their observations on the “Italian Journal of ornithology”.
Write the authors: “In the Province of Imperia, there are 8 pairs with a density
relative of 4.6 pairs/1000 km2, with 12 known nest sites, including one located on the rock wall at the 380 m s.l.m. in the lower valley of the Roja. This nesting site, where the pair were locally reproduced successfully in 2013 and in 2016, is the lowest among those of the Alps and pre-Alps of italy. In fact, in the literature the proportion of nests known in the Alps is, on average, between 800 and 2000 m s.l.m., with several cases of nesting at higher altitudes. In respect of the territory to the foothills, there were nests at low height, but never less than 500 metres”. © Reproduction reserved
