Science probe Hayabusa2 is managed to Friday morning Japanese time to settle down on asteroid Ryugu. It is said by the Japanese space agency, Jaxa, that the delicate mission with extreme caution approach.

“We still have the various data to analyze that we gradually ingest before we can confirm that it is a success, but we think that this will be the case,” said a Jaxa spokesperson. The asteroid Ryugu is located at 340 million km from the earth, which explains why it takes some time for the data in the control center of the mission come in.

The Hayabusa2 put the landing Ryugu Thursday at 13.15 pm, 5.15 pm in Belgium, with some delay. But the probe touched the asteroid, eventually, one hour earlier than planned. As intended, she remained but a few seconds at Ryugu. It would pass within a few days should be clear whether the samples of the soil are made usable.

Three years and ten months

The adventure of the Hayabusa2 began on december 3, 2014. The probe began a long journey of 3.2 billion kilometers, a journey that is not over yet.

It took exactly three years and ten months to reach the destination. In June 2018 stabilized the probe 20 kilometres of Ryugu, a very old asteroid in the shape of a diamond, which at the time of the formation of the solar system would arise.

The probe threw in October, a small German-French robot on the asteroid, Mascot. That worked for more than 17 hours to the composition of the soil of the primitive rocky body to analyze. It is hoped to better the formation of the solar system to understand.

The ultimate goal is to share the knowledge about our solar system strengthening “to better understand the origins of life on earth to understand,” says Jaxa.
