the NEW YORK – The cows are able to express emotions, both positive and negative, comment on the time or on the food and reveal, excitement, surprise, commitment, or distress. It is because it suggests a research published on Nature and led by Alexandra Green at the University of Sydney. The study, which began in 2017, was carried out by recording and analyzing the verses of 13 specimens of the Holstein-Fresian, a breed of european dairy cattle. Team Green has discovered that every cow seems to retain its bellow distinguished, by helping to maintain contact with the herd. “We have found that the individuality and the voice of the cattle is relatively stable in different contexts agricultural loads of emotions”, explains the researcher.

That’s why scientists have created a software that is designed to help you understand different ways of expression of the mammals, a sort of Google Translate to the cows. “Are animals that are social and sociable”, continues the researcher. “In a sense, it is not surprising that affirm their individual identity for the whole life, but this is the first time that we were able to analyze their voices in order to have conclusive evidence of this characteristic. We hope that by acquiring knowledge of their vocalizations, farmers will be able to be in tune with the emotional state of their livestock, improving their wellness and recognizing the specimens that may require individual attention”, says the researcher, who hopes to one day be able to produce a dictionary from English to the cow.
