Science “The discovery of the century” within his field called geophysicist Jay Melosh of Purdue University. He had on a kind of fossils-snapshot of the day in which almost 66 million years ago a meteorite struck our planet. The layer provides first evidence for the theory that the meteor in one blow made an end to the existence of the dinosaurs.

The earth trembled, as the modern man that never yet experienced, presumably with a strength of 10 or 11 on the Richter scale. It was raining fire and rocks. 66 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous, almost all life on our planet by the huge impact of a meteorite wiped out. The best known species to which it is had to believe: the dinosaurs. Most famous remnant of the weft: the Chicxulubkrater on the Mexican peninsula of Yucatán.

Scientists under the leadership of Robert DePalma evidence of that fatal meteorite impact in Mexico, discovered in a layer in what is now North Dakota in the USA, some 3,000 km to the north of the crater. They were already there in 2014, fish with glowing glass in the gills, from the burning debris after the impact high in the air, was hurled up and then back again to earth descended. They also found charred trees, evidence of the tsunami that after the impact the country flooded and molten amber.
