Published on June 13, 2024, at 08:40 am, Furka and Susten (UR) – Blocked by large amounts of snow, these mountain passes are still closed. Clearing operations are ongoing, and their openings may even be delayed until late June or early July!
The cantonal police of Uri announced that the Furka Pass and the Susten Pass still cannot be opened to traffic due to the significant amount of snow covering the mountains and the low temperatures still prevailing in the region. However, snow removal work is in full swing, and a more accurate prediction can be made by the middle of next week.
It is already certain that the Furka Pass will not be realistically open before June 21, 2024, and the Susten Pass before June 28, 2024, according to the authorities. They may even be delayed until the end of June or early July if the current weather conditions persist.
The Public Works Department advises travelers using the already open alpine passes to check the road conditions beforehand. Stay tuned for further updates on the situation as it develops.
