Tennis Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 144) in the first round of the WTA Premier tournament in Indian Wells (hard/9.035.428 dollar) against the American Taylor Townsend (WTA 89). Bonaventure came through the qualifications for the master table. Townsend received a wild card.
It is the second duel between the 24-year-old Bonaventure and the 22-year-old Townsend. That last won their first meeting, in 2017 in the U.s. Florence (hard) with 6-1 and 7-5.
Elise Mertens (WTA 16), Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 51) and Kirsten Flipkens (WTA 56) had no qualifications to play. Mertens is as a sixteenth seed in the first round free. She plays for a place in the sixteenth-finals against Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic (WTA 57) or the American wildcard Amanda Anisimova (WTA 67). Flipkens is opposed to the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard (WTA 73), Van Uytvanck will find the American Alison Riske (WTA 46).
Yanina Wickmayer (WTA 133) did not get by the qualifications.
