Crossverdensmesteren Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus) continues to impress on the road.

on Wednesday, he was fastest when he, along with four other riders reached the first check on the final straight in the brostensløbet Dwars door Vlaanderen.

Van der Poel timed his sprint perfectly and overtook Anthony Turgis (Direct Energie) on the last meters before the finish line after 183 hilly kilometers in Flanders.

Quick-Steps Bob Jungels was number three in a race where none of the nine Danish participants marked themselves in the final.

With the victory proved van der Poel on the new, that he is a man to be reckoned with in the spring hard endagsløb.

on Sunday, he was number four in Gent-Wevelgem and a week earlier he had won the Grand Prix de Denain in France.

on Wednesday, he got off free along with the Turgis, Jungels, Luke Pöstlberger and Tiesj Benoot, and the group had a lead of a little minutes, when it went into the last ten kilometres.

In the main panel tried the teams that had riders out in front, setting the pace, but the quintet kept the lead and even had advice to run tactical on the last mile.

Benoot tried to run away, as there was missing a mile, but was quickly obtained, and so could van der Poel demonstrate his skills as ends.

Dwars door Vlaanderen has been running since 1945 and is ranked as a World Tour race.

Wednesday’s edition took an unusual twist with about 75 kilometres again, as the organizers had to ask both the first group and then the rest of the field to set the run time.

It turned out that the riders were about to collide with the women’s field that had started earlier and had to cross the route, just as the male udbrydere came blazing.

Of the Danish participants fell Quick-Steps and Kasper Asgreen in the eyes as a labourer at the front of the field, while Lasse Norman Hansen as a teammate with Mathieu van der Poel can rejoice to be a part of the winning team.
