Scrooge Mæhle could in the winter transfervindue been shot off to the Premier League-club Southampton FC, who towards the end of the transfer window in January tried to lure the Danish U21-national team player for the south of England.
Southampton, who already have Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Jannik Vestergaard in the squad, commanded the allegedly 85 million dollars for Mæhle, but Genk refused.
the Club has this season and heading towards the belgian championship, and the weighted higher than Mæhle-million at the bank.

– the Interest was very specific, and I was flattered, but Genk immediately said that a transfer could not be. I interpreted the interest as a pat on the back and I’m on the right track, but right now it’s best to be in Genk, says Joakim Mæhle to Het Laatste Nieuws, and states that the trip may very well go to England at a later time:
– I believe that my athletic style of play will fit very well to the Premier League.
Joakim Mæhle has a contract with KRC Genk until June 2020 – this summer he will in all likelihood be experienced as a part of the Danish U21 national team that will play european championship in Italy and San Marino.
The 21-year-old back has this season scored four goals and made nine assists.
