There was suspense up to the last, as the Danish Frans Nielsen-Detroit Red Wings tørnede together with the Ottawa Senators early Friday morning, Danish time in the NHL.

There was first the redemption of tilskuerrækkerne, when that final whistle blew and the score 3-2.

And it was a victory with a very Danish touch. Thus, it was Nielsen, who with cool stavføring late in the second period could bring the home team in front, after the two teams had long been stuck on 2-2.

Nielsen scored the decisive goal with just three minutes left in the second period by converting a pass from Darren Helm after the turnover from the Senators defender Dylan DeMelo.

the Detroit Red Wings went otherwise to the break with 2-1 on two goals from Andreas Athanasiou. One was a penalty.

But the Senators tried hard to come back every time, and managed to score two goals – those stood, respectively, Matt Duchene and Matthew Tkachuk.

It could have been more, if not the Red Wings-goalie Jimmy Howard had saved 40 times in his match number 500 for Detroit’s hockey team.

the Victory was much needed for the crew, which at the moment is number 14 in the eastern conference and have lost the last three matches.
