Swedish Armand Duplantis broke the world record for outdoor pole vault with a leap of 6.16m. He did this in addition to his previous record with Ukrainian Sergei Bubka. Duplantis also holds the indoor track world record with 6.20 meters since March 2017. This was a significant milestone in his stellar career at the Diamond League in Stockholm. 22-year-old Duplantis, a Nordic jumper, surpassed Bubka’s outdoor record by one centimeter.
Duplantis needed just six jumps to set his sixth world record. This was two weeks before the World Championships began in Eugene (Oregon). He also crossed the 6.03 mark after he had already cleared the 5.83 and 5.93 bars. He was ready to ask for 6.16. Although he failed the first attempt, he succeeded the second, flying in his home, where he also signed another feat. “It’s very special for me that it has been achieved in my country,” said ‘Mondo” Duplantis.
Marcell Jacobs, the sprinter and star of the Diamond League, was not able to participate in the eighth round. Jacobs experienced discomfort in his left leg during training, which is the same area in which he’s been experiencing pain since May. South African Akani Simbine won the 100-meter dash with a time 10.02.
