Cycling Sam Bennett (BORA-hansgrohe) won the sixth stage of Paris-Nice. The Irishman showed on a predominantly rolling course between Peynier and Brignoles, the fastest of a depleted group. Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) and Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) were on the stage. Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky) strengthened its leadership position thanks to a few seconds bonificatiewinst. Tomorrow, with an arrival on the Col de Turini the koninginnenetappe on the menu.
The early flight of the day was right after the start. A demarrage of the Frenchman Calmejane (Direct Energy) was answered by his compatriot Pichon (Arkéa-Samsic), the Luxemburger Kirsch (Trek-Segafredo) and the Italian Finetto (Delko Marseille). Calmejane had the front and quickly walk away, and so we got a koptrio. Their maximumvoorsprong amounted to a short three minutes, but on a small 60 km from the finish their adventure is over. Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal) had just before, with the view to a reinforcement of his mountains, is still a counterattack daring. Also he had however no success.
The peloton was by the fierce wind, meanwhile, is in pieces torn. Also the Astana duo Luis Léon Sanchez and Jon Izagirre went his chance, but just over twenty kilometers from the finish it was all back together again. The first peloton rode at a sharp trot towards the finish. Falls of Jan Bakelants (Sunweb) and Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal) ontregelden just the pace, but eventually it came to a sprint. Therein gaining Bennett clever Démare. It was his second stage win, after earlier stage win Tuesday in the third stage.
Tomorrow may klassementsrijders it show. Between starting Nice and the finish on the top of the Col de Turini are of 181.5 km. Sunday ends Paris-Nice with a treacherous ride of 110 miles in and around Nice.
