Pal Dardai had dressed to the nines. He was wearing a gray down jacket, including a ironed shirt, and dark Jeans. It was a special day for him. His first Bundesliga game as coach of Hertha BSC stand at, away in Mainz. Exactly four years, the Hungarian is now in office, two days after his promotion, he celebrated his debut in a 2:0 win against Mainz. Since then, much has changed, not only the round outfit Dardais, in the meanwhile, all honest workers, of balloon silk. The development of the team has developed, in a sense, diametrically opposed to the clothing style of their Coach: from the Simple to the Special. “This team has great potential. Anything could grow here,“ says Dardai. “We have changed the team in the past years, step-by-step for the modern football.” The change can also be used with some typical sayings Dardais trace.

THE SEVEN-MINUTE RULE

Pal Dardai says that he was in the school “the math genius”, at least not in high school. But: “I’m a numbers person.” Many of his rules have to do with mathematics or Geometry. So he wanted to see at the beginning of his term of office, his team, all of seven minutes, a goal-scoring opportunity. “If we have all seven minutes of the a Chance, we win the game”, Dardai explained. The time period was not collected empirically. First and foremost, it should be a psychological support for the insecure team. A day before Dardai was promoted from the U 15 to the pros and Jos Profesional team replaced, had lost to Hertha in their own stadium 0:1 against Bayer Leverkusen. As the Penultimate relegation from the football League was threatened again.

the Seven-minute rule Dardai wanted to stop his Team “to be patient,” he explains. “If we rest, pass the Ball: game. So was the Plan. For the spectators it was a bit boring: We have played a lot in the back way. Until an enemy player is out put and Pressing. In that Moment, we knew what happened. That was rehearsed.“

In the 2015/16 season, the first complete sub-Dardai, get Hertha with this patience game in the first half of the season 32 points, is the winter break of third parties and is in the back round, a victim of its own success. “The enemy have taken from us then, under the magnifying glass and the three midfield players delivered,” says Dardai. “We have not used the rooms, which have elsewhere opened, good – because the quality was there.”

THE LEANING TRIANGLE

is The oblique triangle, consisting of Fabian Lustenberger, Per Skjelbred and Vladimir Darida, meanwhile, is more of a wind oblique triangle. None of the three vertices must feel at home with Hertha still untouchable. Lustenberger, will return in the summer after twelve years in Switzerland, comes this season to 17 missions (14 of them in the starting lineup), was last offered but mostly as an interior defender. Darida has played eight Times (three starting assignments), Skjelbred seven Times (five).

Currently 2015/16, the three midfield players guarantee for the successful first half of the season – even though they are in their systems is actually to similar: all of the more sixes, or Eights as tens. The oblique triangle lived, therefore, of the tactical intelligence of its members, but above all by their diligence and drive strength. “It is a lot of head work: to watch and think”, Vladimir Darida once declared. Meanwhile, Hertha is equipped, especially in midfield, is quite different. “Players like Arne Maier, Marko Grujic, or Ondrej Duda have a very different individual quality,” says Pal Dardai.

THE FOUR-game RULE

Of all the trainers, under which Dardai as a player has worked, it was Lucien Favre for him to be particularly formative. Also, the Four-games-to-rule goes to the Swiss back in the state from 2007 to 2009, with Hertha under the contract. Dardai has divided the schedule into blocks of four games and for each Block, a target number of points spent. In the case of Favre, it was seven per Block. “That is to say: Once, I may lose,” says Dardai. “That is not important for the head, so you put the players under too much pressure.”

That he has reactivated Favre’s rule at the beginning of his term of office, had psychological reasons: “You didn’t want to announce too many points, so that the players can afford to error. Now we try to play without mistakes.“ The Four-game rule is now repealed. “The players are better able to cope with the so-called pressure,” says Dardai. “You have become experienced, so you can ask for more.” In addition, you should not bore the player, so “I think to myself every year something different,” says Dardai. “So you keep the attention of players. If you’re every day the same, same make, you will not remain four-year coach at the same club.“

checkmate

Historically, Hungary is one of the great chess Nations, Pal Dardai but not a chess player. “My father and my uncle have played hours of chess, I prefer to play cards, especially gin Rummy,” he says. “A lot of coaches say, football is like chess. I don’t think so. I see play more Similarities with a map. In chess, you have your idea, you’re going through. There is, however, different than in football, no chance.“ Nevertheless, Herthas coach used increasingly in a twist, he has borrowed from chess: He wants to see chess – and-Matt-gates.

“checkmate, this is a play that is so nice that the striker must push the Ball just over the line into the empty goal,” says Dardai. “We have more and more of them. We practice very often and very much.“ At the beginning of his term of office, the players, to play in such attempts probably knots in the legs. Co-Trainer Rainer Widmayer has once told, as he said to the “eleven against Eleven” in the Training Dardai: “The gate you can carry away. The would remember at all.“

Herthas team is hardly recognizable. Of the 15 players, who were at Dardais debut four years ago in Mainz, Germany on the square, only three are still in the club: Peter Pekarik, Marvin Plattenhardt and Fabian Lustenberger. “If you look at to analyze, the team from the first year, and the average speed – there’s a big difference to today. The team was overall too slow,“ says Dardai. “Now we have very much quality in the squad, which also has to do with speed.”

ten days Ago, Hertha BSC has announced that the contract with Pal Dardai has been extended as a head coach for a year. It is not known whether the Hungarian has brought a good bottle of red wine from his cellar. Why? For him, the term of the contract is only a theoretical size. Dardai says: “As a coach, you got a six week contract.” Located in the triangle of Fans, team and media, which must always be properly balanced and out of balance, it should not come to success. “If you lose six Times, begin to the media to shoot,” he says. “This is so.”
