“I am determined to beat this rare cancer that has decided to turn my life upside down.” Émilie Dequenne announced her illness on her Instagram account on Sunday October 22. The 42-year-old actress also reveals having undergone a “heavy emergency operation at the end of August”, which forced her to be “a little absent from the sets, promotions and previews”.
“Since mid-July, I have been in Belgium and I had to carry out four (great) projects there until the end of the year. Unfortunately, I was only able to shoot one, start a second, and I stopped there,” she reports on the social network. The Belgian has not revealed the nature of her cancer. However, she assures that she “does not want to give in” to the illness against which she “fights every day”. Many relatives and colleagues of the actress were quick to react to her Instagram publication. “All our love, our admiration. And the prayers we send you so that you feel strong and full of good vibes,” said actor and comedian Axel Lutz. Actresses Hélène De Fougerolles and Géraldine Nakache as well as Miss France Sonia Rolland also showed their support.
Émilie Dequenne won the César for Best Supporting Actress in 2021 for her performance in The Things We Say, The Things We Do. The actress was revealed in the film Rosetta by the Dardenne brothers for which she received the Best Actress Award at Cannes in 1999. The actress is also known for her roles in Pas son genre, Le Pacte des loups, La Fille du RER A or even Losing your mind. The public will be able to find her in the cinema soon in Complètement cramé by Gilles Legardennier which will be released in theaters on November 1st.
