Spain coach Luis de la Fuente welcomed Friday the attribution of the 2030 World Cup to Spain, Portugal and Morocco, while hoping that the final would take place in his country the next day of a comparable wish expressed by Rabat.

“It is a source of joy and we must celebrate it,” commented De la Fuente at a press conference, two days after the surprise announcement from the International Federation (Fifa). “This is a very important event which is the result of the work accomplished in recent years,” he added.

The Spanish coach also took the opportunity to express the wish that “the World Cup final be played in Spain”, without however designating a particular stadium. “There are a lot of very beautiful enclosures all over Spain,” he said.

On Thursday, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, also expressed Rabat’s desire to host the 2030 World Cup final. “We hope, this is the objective, to experience an exceptional final, God willing, in a stadium which will be magnificent and extraordinary, in Casablanca”, where a new enclosure should be built, he declared on the radio Mars, a specialized media.

In addition to Spain, Portugal and Morocco, three South American countries – Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay – will host three meetings of this World Cup to celebrate the centenary of the first edition which was held in 1930 in Uruguay.
