Swedish skier Sara Hector achieved the best time on Saturday in the first round of the Are giant in Sweden counting for the Alpine Skiing World Cup.

Starting with bib 1, the 31-year-old Swede was never overtaken and finished the first round in the lead ahead of the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami (61 hundredths) and the Italian Federica Brignone (1 sec 16).

The stakes are high in Are, the last stage before the finals in Saalbach from March 16. Lara Gut-Behrami, already almost certain of winning the big globe at the end of the season, can secure the giant globe on Saturday.

To do this, she must manage to maintain a lead of more than 100 points in the specialty rankings over Federica Brignone on Saturday. She is currently 135 points ahead.

The only Frenchwoman entered, Clara Direz took 9th place in the first round, 2 sec 33 behind Sara Hector.

The second round is scheduled from 1:30 p.m.
