Austrians Eirini-Marina and Anna-Maria Alexandri were crowned free duet artistic swimming world champions on Thursday in Fukuoka (Japan), where the French women took last place in the final.
The Alexandri sisters, who also have a triplet sister, also an artistic swimmer, won with 255.4583 points. They were barely 2/10ths ahead of other twin sisters, the Chinese Wang Liuyi and Qianyi (255.2480 pts).
The Japanese Moe Higa and Mashiro Yasunaga, crowned Sunday in the technical test, complete the podium with 249.5167 points. Severely penalized for two technical errors, the French duo of Eve Planeix and Anastasia Bayandina collected only 170.0542 points, finishing last in the final.
