From next September, many primary school children in Bologna, will be able to walk or cycling routes to school, the so-called ‘walking school bus’ or ‘bicibus’, cross the strips of road safer and to stop with the parents in the pedestrian zone close to the schools.
This is the objective outlined yesterday in committee, palazzo d’accursio, where Giancarlo Sgubbi, engineer of the mobility sector of the town, presented a summary of the timing of the implementation of the program for sustainable mobility and safer, with a focus on primary schools. After specifying that the action apply to the schools that have formally joined the project in 2019, the engineer explains that “the goal would be to start, from the spring onwards, and by the end of this school year, with trials of various kinds”. At this time, before proceeding with the experimentation, the mobility sector of the town, along with schools, are collecting information on the habits of the children and is organising the “strategic meetings” with the institutions to define their “priority” for a sustainable mobility that does not pass only by the ‘piedibus’.
For the ‘pedibus’, in fact, have parents volunteer to take charge of a manageable number of children, and to accompany them on the walk to school. Important, therefore, interventions for the safety of the roads, how to make a crosswalk more visible, redo the sidewalks or to find solutions in cases in which the accesses to the schools are problematic.
