American star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Olympic champion and world record holder in the 400m hurdles, withdrew from the 400m at the Monaco Diamond League meeting on Friday, due to “knee discomfort”, announces the organization.

“Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has made the decision not to participate in the Herculis EBS Wanda Diamond League meeting. She regrets not being able to run in Monaco today, in consultation with her doctor, due to knee discomfort, ”wrote the organization in a press release.

Initially registered in the 400m, a discipline which she decided to favor in 2023, McLaughlin-Levrone is cautious one month before the World Championships in Budapest (August 19-27) where she is aiming for a 4th title after those of the 400m hurdles (2022) and the 4x400m relay (2019 and 2022).
