Kenyan Evans Chebet won the Boston Marathon for the second consecutive year on Monday, winning in 2:05:54, far ahead of his compatriot and favorite Eliud Kipchoge, only 6th.
For his first participation in Boston, Kipchoge, double Olympic champion (2016, 2021), world record holder (2 h 01 min 09 sec in Berlin on September 25), was dropped at the 30th kilometer after an acceleration from the Tanzanian Gabriel Geay, finally 2nd.
Chebet, who achieved the first double in Boston since 2008, broke away from his last two pursuers in the last kilometers ahead of Geay and his compatriot Benson Kipruto.
