Nigerian Tobi Amusan, world champion and world record holder in the 100m hurdles, has had her provisional suspension lifted by anti-doping, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Thursday evening two days before the opening of the World Championships in Budapest (August 19-27). Amusan, 26, had been provisionally suspended in July for three anti-doping whereabouts violations in less than a year. The Nigerian will finally be able to line up in the 100m hurdles series on Tuesday, the disciplinary tribunal having considered that the athlete had “not committed a violation of the anti-doping regulations”, relating to her alleged breaches.
The AIU, which investigated the investigation, said it was “disappointed with the decision” through the voice of its director Brett Clothier, and reserves the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In 2022, Amusan won the title of world champion in the 100m hurdles, after setting a new world record for the discipline in 12 sec 12 in the semi-finals.
