Daniil Medvedev will see the quarter-finals in Melbourne. The Russian, seeded N.3, beat the Portuguese Nuno Borges this Monday in the round of 16 of the Australian Open. A victory in four sets, 6-3, 7-6 [7/4], 5-7, 6-1.

Medvedev will face world No.9 Hubert Hurkacz, winner of the Frenchman Arthur Cazaux, beneficiary of an invitation, for a place in the last four.

Medvedev served to win the match in the third set, and even got two match points, before briefly losing the thread, and allowing Borges to come back to two sets to one. But he rallied in the fourth set.

The double finalist in Melbourne (2021 and 2022) narrowly escaped in the second round, after being led two sets to zero by the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori, finally overthrown 3-6, 6-7 (1/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/1), 6-0.
