Frenchman Adrien Moerman has extended his contract with Zénith Saint-Petersburg by one year, the Russian basketball club announced on Sunday. “Zénith Basket Club and French strong winger Adrien Moerman have reached an agreement to continue their collaboration,” the club said on its website. “The player will spend the next season in St. Petersburg.” At 34, Moerman compromises his chances of seeing the France team again, for which he has 12 selections between 2014 and 2019.
The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) prohibits players playing in the Russian championship from being selected with the Blues because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Moerman’s teammate at the Zénith, Thomas Heurtel is another player targeted by this ban, along with Louis Labeyrie (UNICS Kazan), Amath M’Baye and Livio Jean-Charles (CSKA Moscow).
Arrived last season from AS Monaco after being dropped from the group, the 2.02m Frenchman has played 22 matches with the Russian club. He averages 8.5 points per game, 4.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists.
