Hard blow for French women’s basketball. The leader of the French team Marine Fauthoux suffers from a herniated disc and will have to undergo surgery which puts an end to her season, her club Asvel announced on Wednesday less than five months before the Paris Olympic Games.
Fauthoux (23 years old, 62 caps) was injured during Les Bleues’ second match at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Xi’An (China), on February 10.
She has since “observed two weeks of complete rest with no real improvements noted.” She will have to undergo surgery which will keep her away from the courts until the end of the 2023-2024 season, Asvel Women’s said in a press release. Although he does not indicate the expected duration of his absence, the Blues may be worried about the presence of their leader.
