Real Madrid’s French international pivot, Petr Cornelie, 27 years old and 2m11, has signed a three-year contract with Monaco, the French champion club announced on Thursday.

Winner of the Euroleague last season without playing the Final 4, but after having played 33 games in the competition with Real Madrid, Cornelie was also Olympic vice-champion with the Blues in Tokyo in 2021.

Not retained by Real at the end of a decent season (4.4 points, 3 rebounds in the league; 5.9 points, 3.2 rebounds in the Euroleague), Cornelie, passed by Le Mans, Levallois and Pau, before trying his luck, without success, in Denvers in the NBA during the 2021-2022 season, returns to France very ambitious.

“I come to Monaco with the ambition to seek the Euroleague, he indicated on the website of the Monegasque club. I won it with Real but it was very frustrating as I didn’t play in the finals. I really have this spirit of revenge about it. I want to be a major player.”

Cornelie, considered a locally trained player (JFL), replaces the American Chima Moneke in the Monegasque squad, who left for Baskonia Vitoria, another Spanish Euroleague club.
