Slovenia won the last ticket for the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup (ex-Fed Cup) by defeating Romania 3-2 in qualifying on Sunday in Koper (Slovenia). The fate of this duel was sealed by the double which had started on Saturday, before being interrupted by the rain and resuming on Sunday.
Kaja Juvan and Tamara Zidansek brought the point of qualification by beating Irina Bara and Monica Niculescu 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Romania had however won the first two singles on Friday, before losing the last three matches.
The nine nations resulting from the qualifications are now known: they are Slovenia, France, the United States, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Spain and from Canada.
Switzerland and Australia, respectively winner and finalist of the 2022 edition, were already guaranteed to participate in the final phase which will take place from November 7 to 12 in a city yet to be determined). A twelfth and final team, yet to be determined, will receive an invitation.
